PepsiCo & Community Relations

PepsiCo has pledged their promise as they began their campaign "Performance with Purpose". With this promise they will build more enjoyable and wholesome foods and beverages to promote healthy lifestyles, reduce use of energy, water and packaging, develop better workplace conditions and support and invest in local communities.

In order to keep their promise, PepsiCo has an extensive community relations department in which their primary focus is health (food security, nutrition and energy balance), the environment (water security/sustainable agriculture) and education (access to education, training for underserved and women empowerment).
The community relations department provides grants which organizations could apply for, humanitarian aid, corporate and division contributions. They also have the opportunity for matching gifts.

PepsiCo has developed the PepsiCo Foundation which provides charitable contributions to nonprofit organizations. Over the last few years, PepsiCo has donated a $5 million dollar grant to the Save the Children Foundation which helps malnourished children living in rural India and Bangladesh. They also donated $2.2 million dollars to the World Food Program USA to aid in hunger needs.

In addition PepsiCo Foundation has aided in developing a partnership with Safe Water Network which aids in providing access to safe water while also implementing rainwater harvesting systems. They have also funded a charitable organization called Diplomas Now which is a school turnaround model. Diplomas now features the City Year program for better behavior & attendance, the Communities in Schools program which connects students with community resources and a talent development program where students will improve attitudes through school organization and professional development.

PepsiCo has also aided in a significant amount of Disaster Relief programs as they provide financial assistance, produce donations and make human resource contributions. They have done all of these charitable acts during the Chile earthquake, Haiti earthquake and Hurricane Katrina. They have also donated $100,000+ to the American Red Cross and YMCA.

In terms of PepsiCo's social relations they have the sustainability program which entails Human Sustainability, Environmental Sustainability and Talent Sustainability where they work to make the world we live in a better place.

In the Human Sustainability program PepsiCo works to develop solutions to global challenges (ex. obesity). They transform products and take global initiatives in order to make people more healthy such as producing programs that promote physical activity and calorie labeling in order for people to have more nutrition education. Likewise, the environmental sustainability programs work to keep the environment clean and safe by limiting the amount of their products that develop landfills. In addition, the talent sustainability program entails a safe and empowering work environment and better living standards in communities.

Clearly, PepsiCo works hard to help the world but no one would know about it unless someone were to visit their website. They need to have more PR about the good things they do because it could ultimately change consumers views about their company.

In addition, PepsiCo does a lot for the community by donating money, however maybe they should have  more a more personal touch by volunteering which would show that they truly care about the organizations that they are helping.

PepsiCo in Social Media

Hi Everyone! We're back and here to tell you even more about how and why PepsiCo is so successful while even offering some improvement tips! This week we are going to talk about PepsiCo and Social Media.

In this day and age, if any company wants awareness they need to utilize social media such as Facebook and Twitter. So, is PepsiCo on Facebook? You bet they are! They have a sophisticated Facebook page and they have not only one but TWO Twitter accounts.

Although PepsiCo's Facebook page is a little busy, they have a lot of cool features such as a video player that helps the public learn more about what PepsiCo is all about. They also feature a PepsiCo photo gallery and what PepsiCo has recently tweeted. Even though their Facebook page has all of these great applications, the page has only 34, 212 "Likes" which is not a lot for a corporate company of PepsiCo's ranking. I think the reason for this is that they do not advertise the fact that they have a Facebook page. It was no where to find on their website and if it is, it is way too hard to find.

Nonetheless, PepsiCo DOES utilize media on their website. They have RSS feeds that consumers can subscribe to involving PepsiCo News, Pepsi Cola News, Investment News, Inside Scoops and Speeches. They also feature press releases and upcoming events on their site.

The most impressive of PepsiCo's use of social media is their Twitter accounts ranking in at a total of 69, 783 followers. Yes, you read correctly, they have TWO Twitter accounts. One for PepsiCo, the corporate company and one for PepsiCo Jobs. The regular PepsiCo twitter account gives consumers information such as volunteer opportunities and/or how to get involved with PepsiCo. They even retweet their followers and have conversations with them! On PepsiCoJobs they tweet about information about their employees and what certain jobs entail. Although, PepsiCo is very impressive with its Twitter accounts, it is depressing that they only have 69,783 followers compared to Jersey Shores' Snooki having 3,272,352 followers. Nonetheless, they are very present on twitter with a whopping 6,498 tweets and have a delightfully positive attitude.

PepsiCo is well on their way to getting the most out of social media however they need to have more awareness about their social media accounts. In order to do this they can have a day where if people "Like" or "follow" their pages they will give out coupons or discounts on products or something of this nature.

The Real Buzz on Pepsi

Welcome to PepsiBuzz where you will find complete coverage on everything Pepsi!

Background:
I think we all know the legendary debate that has gone on for decades: Pepsi or Coke? Well this blog will give you background on not only Pepsi, the product, but Pepsi, the corporation aka PepsiCo. We all know that PepsiCo makes delicious sodas and fun drinks that we enjoy when we get bored with water but we really do not know anything about the PepsiCo company and/or how it became so successful. Well look no further because PepsiBuzz is here to inform you on EVERYTHING PepsiCo related!

PepsiCo, Inc was founded in 1965 by Donald M. Kendall (president and CEO of Pepsi-Cola) and Herman W. Lay (Chairman and CEO of Frito-Lay) through the merger of their two companies. Pepsi Cola had been created in the late 1890's by Caleb Bradham, a pharmacist in North Carolina. Ever since then the product has been unstoppable, merging with brands such as Gatorade and Quaker Oats while topping the charts as one of the best corporations in America. Currently PepsiCo's products include: Tropicana, Gatorade, Quaker Oates, Sierra Mist, Doritos, Frito-Lay, Tostitos, SoBe, Naked, Sun Chips and many more.

They use many different public relations tactics to make their products known. For example, they made the colors blue, red and white stand out as a Pepsi product when it comes to sodas.  In addition, 1984 was a big year for Pepsi as they reformulated their Pepsi product with NutraSweet. Not only did they make their product better but they also made advertising history as Pepsi became the "choice of a new generation" with the help of Michael Jackson and his brothers. Their new campaign strategy became "Entertainment Marketing" for years to come. After The Jackson 5's popular advertisement they went on to use this tactic with Beyonce in 2002. After this, PepsiCo became the largest company in the beverage industry as they had revenues exceeding 7.5 billion and the product was reaching nearly 150 countries around the world!

Recently, PepsiCo has been facing some difficulty with First Lady, Michelle Obama due to their unhealthy drink choices and they were not addressing this issue for awhile. However, In response to this, PepsiCo has highlighted their products such as Diet Pepsi, Gatorade and/or Tropicana. They are also sponsoring the "Growth through Innovation Campaign" which supports healthier choices.

Through blogs, their website, speeches and press releases PepsiCo communicates with their consumers fairly efficiently however, they are said to "turn their backs" when something embarrassing happens. Their strategies for growth include: profitably growing the company's beverage business and nutrition business worldwide.

Right now, the biggest challenge for PepsiCo's public relations team is to prove to the world that Pepsi supports healthy choices and a healthy America. Through their campaigns such as Human, Environmental and Talent Sustainability, they are well on their way. They have also announced that $60 billion in sales comes from healthy or functional products such as fruit juices. They also pledged to reduce the average saturated fat, sugar and sodium per serving by at least 15% (some even 25%) by 2020 while adding more whole grains to the foods that they produce.
